The MG series was created in 1995. Fifteen years after the creation of Gunpla, Bandai responded to both advances in plastic model engineering and the greater demand of both fans and creators for greater mechanical verisimilitude. These two elements fused in the first MG kit, the "RX-78-2 Gundam".
As time has passed, technology has improved and the changing tastes of each era have left their marks on the MG series. And as technology and tastes have progressed, so has the MG RX-78-2 Gundam.
First was the MG RX-78-2 Gundam, first in the MG series. Ver.1.5 was created using the engineering advances of the Perfect Grade series. Ver.One Year War 0079 recreated the fine details seen in game cinematics. Ver. Ka emphasized the frame as a structural element. while increasing mobility. And the RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.2.0 succeeded in recreating every twist and turn of the Gundam's famous flexibility in the anime. The RX-78-2 Gundam has been there for each MG breakthrough.
Yet. the MG series has continued to evolve following Ver.2.0. Five years after Ver.2.0. in December 2012. came the release of the MG vGundam Ver.Ka. This kit. with its cutting-edge design. detailed armor segmentation. and sliding annor plates. uses the newest technology to point out a new way forward for Gunpla.
It represents both an arrival. and a departure for new challenges. To look to the future. and continue the advance of Gunpla. we must refine our advances into a single kit. And thus. that kit: the new MG RX-78-2 Gundam.
In 2013. we look to the future of MG with a brand-new Gundam that rethinks not just a single design but the very framework and expressive potential of scale models. and brings you a sense of realism beyond your wildest imagination: the MG RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.3.0.
